|Call for Future City Judges|
Through volunteering for judging or coordinating the 2011-2012 National
Engineers Week Future City Competition, you and your colleagues can make all the
difference. Middle-school students with a keen interest in engineering and those
committed to helping them realize their dreams are now preparing for the local
competitions occurring throughout Region 5 (and the rest of the country). All
are in need of any assistance you can provide, no matter how great or small.
The Future City Competition – created by IEEE and now sponsored by National Engineers Week – is designed to inspire 6-8th grade students about engineering by challenging them to solve the real-world problems associated with building a livable city of the future. Hundreds of students will be working hard from October through January on their city concepts.
Judges Needed – We need hundreds of engineers and technical professionals to volunteer their time and expertise in judging student designs, models, and presentations. Our greatest need is for judges and general volunteers on the day-of the competition event (mid-late January, dates vary by location): interacting with the students as you judge models and presentations. Other opportunities available include judging simulated city designs and essays (which, in some cases, can be done from the comfort of your own computer at your own pace). Specifics of individual events can be found on the websites (below).
Spread the word, enlist your colleagues, and contact your local Future City Regional Coordinator.
