7x24 Exchange Spring Conference  
The 7x24 Exchange is the leading knowledge and networking exchange for those who design, build, use, and maintain mission-critical information infrastructures.

The Midwest Chapter, based in KC, is hosting its annual Spring Conference on 04MAY, 2012 at the Kauffman Stadium. This conference brings attendees from across the nation and is noted for its excellent technical presentations. Its vendor-sponsored prize drawings, held at every conference since the mid-1990s, are also popular.

Science Fair Winners!  
From Luke M. Goss, P.E., at Kiewit Power Engineers, we have this announcement.

The IEEE, Kansas City Section and the IEEE PES, Kansas City Chapter co-sponsored special awards for the 61st Annual Kansas City Science and Engineering Fair held March 21-24, 2012. Three awards in each of the three age divisions were presented to winning students with a total cash value for all prizes of $700.

Judging this year were Douglas Butcher, Larry Shultz and Kavita Lal.

Sara Stephens presented certificates to the winners at the awards banquet.

Senior Division:
1st Place: Mathew Logan, "Effects of Dye Composition on the Performance of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells”
2nd Place: Mariah Mathews, "Windustry"
3rd Place: Madison Nasteff, "Effect of Color on the Absorption of Ultrasonic Waves"

Junior Division:
1st Place: Harry Oest, "All Wound Up"
2nd Place: Teren Debok, "How Rotor Blade Lengths Affect the Energy Output of a Wind Turbine"
3rd Place: Zachary Delong, "How Does the Wattage of a Light Bulb Affect the Amount of Milliamps a Solar Panel Produces"

Intermediate Division:
1st Place: Derek Ruf, "Illuminating the Subject of Light"
2nd Place: Anthony Haggerty, "Battle of the Batteries"
3rd Place: Zach Taylor & Jack Baird, "Super Spudly Battery"

Three $300 Scholarships  
The IEEE, Kansas City Section, will provide three $300 scholarships to supplement the cost of $849 for the 2012 Power PE Review course provided this summer by UMKC at Burns & McDonnell.

We invite active members of IEEE to apply for one of these awards to supplement their registration costs.
